A Wide-Tuning Range Low Phase Noise LC-VCO with a High Q Switched Capacitor Array

A fully-integrated inductance-capacitance (LC) voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with a wide tuning range and low phase noise was designed demonstrated in 130 nm CMOS technology process. To achieve higher quality factor (Q) value, proposed switched capacitor array (SCA) combining 4-bit capacitors large capacitance 3-bit small is adopted, which occupies area at the same time. In addition, varactor tail resistor are used to provide flexibly dynamic VCO gain adjustment power consumption adjustment, separately. The measurement shows continuous of 48% from 1.9 3.1 GHz consumes 8 mW DC 1.2 V supply voltage (excluding buffers). Furthermore, this design displays 125.63 dBc/Hz 1 MHz offset its 2.5 oscillation frequency. VCO’s measured figure-of-merit including (FoMT) -197.39 carrier frequency GHz, demonstrates potential for application integrated circuits
